The history of Rideau View Golf and Country Club is inextricably linked with the history of the Ottawa Jewish community to which it owes its existence. In the 1950's, the community faced difficulties acquiring membership at other private clubs in the area. Golfers and non-golfers alike united together in the common cause of having a golf club to which they could belong.

On October 23, 1955 a group of members of Ottawa's Jewish community met at the home of Jack Snow to confirm their enthusiasm for building their own golf club. On September 18, 1956, at the first Annual General Meeting, the Rideau View Golf and Country Club was founded and a formal decision to proceed was acted upon. One year later, the Ladies Association was formed. As a result, Rideau View Golf and Country Club was formally established in 1957, with Jack Snow becoming the club's first President.

Two hundred acres of land in Manotick, Ontario, were purchased and construction began. The first nine holes were designed by Howard Watson and play began in 1958. In September 1962, the second nine, designed by Robbie Robinson, was added to complete the 18-hole layout.

While the origins of the club were rooted in the Jewish community, all membership restrictions were lifted in 1971. Building on its past, the club's mission is to maintain a safe and welcoming atmosphere, implement sound environmental practices and to support the growth of golf in the Ottawa Valley. With the vision of the Founder's fully realized, Rideau View has become a wonderful place for a broad community of golf enthusiasts.
